Its follows persistent rainfall overnight, and weeks of poor weather which has provided little let up in terms of drainage.

A risk of snow is also being forecasted by the national weather service.

“Tonight will be very cold, with clear spells and scattered showers, most of the showers in the western half of the country, turning increasingly wintry as the night progresses, with some hail and sleet. There is a risk of snow showers also, especially over high ground and a risk of thunder, mainly on northwest coasts. Minimum temperatures 0 to 4 Celsius, with frost in sheltered places. Winds mostly moderate to fresh westerly winds.”

Then outlook for tomorrow (Tuesday) is that conditions will remain very cold and windy.

“Some of the showers may be of hail and sleet, with a risk of some snow showers, mainly over high ground,” its predicted, and this “very cold and unsettled” weather is expected to stick around for the rest of the week- with occasional showers or longer spells of rain and some wintry precipitation of sleet and snow at times, especially in Ulster and Connacht.
