Local pupils prep for Junk Kouture regional final
Almost 20 designs from five separate schools from across Cavan and Monaghan are building up for Junk Kouture’s Northern Regional Final in Derry's The Millennium Forum next week.
In total there will be four designs by students presented by students at St Bricin's College in Belturbet, one from Kingscourt Youthreach, two from Largy College in Clones, eight from St Louis Secondary in Monaghan, and four from Beech Hill College.
The local pupils are busily adding the finishing touches to their haute couture recycled designs, before strutting their stuff at this year’s Regional Final in the hopes of bagging themselves a place at the inaugural Grand Final on the 3Arena stage on April 30.
Since its inception Junk Kouture has attracted over 40,000 students, 8,000 teachers and 100,000 audience members.
2020 marks the ten-year anniversary of the national fashion competition Junk Kouture, with over 1,300 entries nationally.
Only 80 designs from across the Northern region were chosen to progress to the live Regional Final in Derry which will take place on Thursday, February 27.
Judges Tracey Fahey from Limerick School of Art and Design, Jane Leavey of Griffith College, fashion designer Stephen McLaughlin and student judge Rebecca Mc Nally will lend their expertise to proceedings on the night.
Troy Amour, CEO of Junk Kouture revealed: “I am very proud to be involved in one of Ireland’s most prestigious post-primary competition. Each year, more and more students are entering which brings a new wave of creativity and fresh talent to Junk Kouture. I cannot wait to see what this year will bring; it’s looking like it will be our strongest and most competitive yet”.
As Junk Kouture celebrates its ten-year anniversary, the brand-new partnership with RTÉ was announced early this month.
The partnership will see RTÉ 2FM’s podcast queens, Laura Fox and Emma Power, hosts of popular 'Unlocked with Laura and Emma', present the Junk Kouture regional events and grand finale.
RTÉ 2FM DJ Tara Stewart meanwhile will provide the party atmosphere at the Grand Final, unleashing her musical prowess on the decks and on stage at 3Arena.
