Motorists warned of potential black ice on roads
Motorists are being urged to drive with caution with reports of black ice in some areas areas across the county.
Accidents have been reported in some areas, including close to Stradone between the Cross Pub and Finger Post. Gardai are on the scene, and diversions are in place.
There are reports also of slippery conditions elsewhere in the east of the county, from Cootehill to the Cavan-Meath border at Moynalty.
Cavan County Council salting crews were operating overnight treating priority routes.
National weather service Met Eireann report that any early frost is expected to clear later this morning leaving what can be expected to be a cold and blustery day, with some sunny spells and showers.
“The showers will be most frequent in Connacht, Ulster and West Munster with some hail and thunder there. Maximum temperatures will range 5 to 8 degrees with fresh to strong southwest winds reaching gale force along northwestern and northern coasts.”
Tractor Protest
Separately, large-scale traffic disruption can be expected on all major routes towards Dublin, with more than 600 tractors, jeeps and other assorted agricultural machinery expected to arrive at the Capital later this morning.
It follows a similar type protest which took place back in November 2019, which also led to widespread disruption on main routes into the city, including the N2, N3, N4, N7 and N81.
The protest is officially due to begin at 2pm, with road closures from 10am on Kildare Street, Molesworth Street, St Stephen's Green and Merrion Square.
