Over €265k for local Community Enhancement projects
Almost 130 community projects across counties Cavan and Monaghan have been granted funding amounting to €266,698 under the Community Enhancement Programme.
They include residents associations, community development associations, enterprise associations, and local clubs across the two counties.
Of the total allocation, some €134,700 has been allocated to 69 projects in Cavan, with €131,998 allocated to 60 projects in Monaghan.
The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation and local Fine Gael TD, Heather Humphreys, welcomed the announcement.
"I am delighted to have received confirmation that €220,698 has been allocated to 129 local community projects will benefit the people here in Cavan and Monaghan under the Community Enhancement Programme,” she said.
The Community Enhancement Programme provides capital grants to community groups to help them to enhance facilities in disadvantaged communities. It supports a range of activities in all areas of communities, such as childcare groups, playgrounds, recreational groups, sports grounds, landscaping, and supporting the elderly.
Nationally, 2,106 community separate initiatives around the country have been allocated a total of €4,524,124 under the programme in this round of funding.
Minister Humphreys also received confirmation that the programme will run again in 2020.
“Typical enhancements under the Programme include the renovation of community centres and community amenities, improvements to town parks and common areas and spaces and the purchase of equipment which is used to benefit the community. The Programme has also supported energy efficient upgrades, developing community gardens, provision of defibrillators, CCTV, and sports and IT equipment,” she said.
