Arrest over Emyvale Station fire

A male aged in his 30’s has been arrested in connection with the ongoing investigation into a fire that destroyed Emyvale Garda Station in Co Monaghan earlier this week.

The male was arrested earlier tonight, Wednesday, October 30, in Co Donegal.

He is being held under section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984, where he is expected to be interviewed by the investigation team from Monaghan.

The arrest follows two searches carried out by gardai in the Emyvale area, and a further search in the Letterkenny area.

The searches involved both Detective and Uniform Gardaí from Monaghan, assisted by colleagues from Donegal.

Reports are that the fire at the Emyvale station started to the rear of the station property before catching hold to the rest of the building, which was unoccupied at the time. There were no reported injuries.

The scene was subsequently preserved pending a full Garda Forensic Examination.

Following the blaze during the early hours of last Monday morning, October 28, gardai launched an appeal for witnesses to come forward.

This included any motorists travelling in the area between 3am and 5.30am who may have dashcam footage.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Monaghan Garda Station on 047 77200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111,” gardai stated.
