The large crowd at the book launch in Cabra

Book shows Cavan's contribution to Holy Rosary Sisters

A new book detailing the lives, achievements, and legacy of the first 10 professed sisters to the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary convent in Killeshandra was launched in Dublin earlier this month.
Authored by Catherine Kilbride, the well-attended launch took place at St Mary’s Dominican Convent, Cabra, which served as the motherhouse to the then fledging Holy Rosary sisters through the first ten years of their existence (1924–34).
Founded by Bishop Joseph Shanahan to bring the gospel to the women of Southern Nigeria, the Holy Rosary sisters now number over 300 sisters on missions in Africa, South America, Ireland/United Kingdom, and the US.
Former members of the convent in Cavan and family members and friends of nuns who served there attended the launch of ‘The First Ten Professed’, which was addressed by Professor Margaret MacCurtain OP, herself a Dominican sister, Irish historian, writer, and educator.
The launch was also attended by the Nigerian Ambassador to Ireland, Dr Uzoma Emenike.
Among the nuns featured in the book are three Cavan-natives - Sr Joseph (Ellen) Burns from Killagoan, Killeshandra; Sr Patrick (Nora) Leddy, from Killeshandra; and Sr M Therese (Agnes) Ryan, from Bailieborough.
