Tragedy at Woodford Canal as young man loses his life
A man in his 20s has died after a car entered the Woodford River in Ballyconnell yesterday evening (Saturday).
Gardaí in Cavan are investigating the fatal collision, which occurred at Ballyheady Bridge, Ballyconnell, on September 21.
It occured at around 6:30pm on the Ballinamore to Ballyconnell Road in west County Cavan.
Gardaí and Emergency services attended the scene following reports that a car had entered the water.
The body of a man in his mid 20s was recovered from the water and pronounced dead at the scene. Two other men in their 20s escaped from the car uninjured. One man was taken to Cavan General Hospital as a precaution.
Garda Forensic Collision investigators attended the scene to conduct a technical examination.
The road was closed to traffic for a time with local diversions in place.
