Almost 740 bulk items collected
A bulky goods collection day at the Corranure Civic Amenity Centre earlier this month saw organisers inundated and a tailback of more than a kilometre of users' vehicles carrying items for disposal.
Such was the demand, Council staff were dispatched to assist with traffic management outside the Cootehill Road facility.
Trucks, vans and cars queued for upwards of 30 minutes to dispose of items, along with the regular high volume of traffic that avails of the recycling centre's services at the weekend.
Among the bulky goods deposited, a total of 137 armchairs were dumped, 356 mattresses, 112 sofas, and 133 three-piece suites.
“A number of bed bases, wardrobes, lockers, dining room furniture, dining tables, chairs, dressers were also dropped off,” a spokesperson for Cavan County Council confirmed.
The council will later this month host a waste paints free drop off event at the Civic Amenity Centre.
The event takes place on September 28 from 8am to 12.30pm.
Items are accepted free of charge and limited to interior and exterior household paints.
