Further ATM raid arrests
Gardaí investigating the attempted theft of an ATM in Virginia, Co. Cavan earlier this month carried out further searches in Co Meath yesterday evening (August 20). Local officers carried out the raids supported by members attached to National Units.
A further significant quantity of cash was recovered as a result of the searches.
Two males in their 30’s, one with an address in Northern Ireland, have been arrested on suspicion of offences contrary to section 73 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. They are currently being detained under gang legislation in accordance with the provisions of section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007 at Kells Garda Station.
A 28 year old male has also been arrested for money laundering offences. He is being detained under section 4 Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Navan Garda Station.
The investigation is ongoing.
It brings to six the total number of men that have been arrested to date since the attempted ATM theft on the town's Main Street on August 14.
Of those arrested, three remain in custody, with an estimated over €400,000 in cash recovered.
