BREAKING: Virginia sealed off after attempted ATM raid
Main Street has re-opened but there remains a heavy Garda presence in Virginia this morning after Gardaí foiled what is understood to be an attempted ATM raid in the early hours.
It is understood that Gardaí attached to the Cavan-Monaghan division, supported by national units, intervened in the attempted robbery of the ATM.
Two men are currently being held in custody and investigations are ongoing. Motorists were forced to take a detour around the town for the past few hours as Gardaí launch their probe.
The site of the ATM, to the side of the Riverfront Hotel, is located directly opposite and about 50 metres away from Virginia Garda Station.
While the official Garda Síochána Twitter account has posted details of the incident along with a photo (above), Gardaí at the scene are remaining very tight-lipped. One Garda told The Anglo-Celt "I know nothing at all" while denying permission to take a close-up photograph of the scene.
