Ballyjamesduff woman writes song as fundraiser for SOSAD
A Dublin lady, who has been living in Ballyjamesduff for the past 14 years, has written a song around the topic of suicide and depression with all the proceeds going directly to Save Our Sons and Daughters (SOSAD).
The song by Lily Burke ‘Snow Globe’ can be downloaded on iTunes and it is also available to stream on spotify. People can also donate directly to SOSAD and there will be a link on Lily’s facebook page @lilyburkemusic.
Lily said she met Christine Wynne from SOSAD in Cavan on a recent course on mental health in the community in Cavan Institute.
As a result of the content of the course, Lily explained that she was inspired to write a song, which she recorded in Berlin, where her brother has a studio.
The song entitled ‘Snow Globe’ centres around the topic of suicide and depression and its devastating effects.
“I wanted the song to raise awareness and get the message out there that there are services available to help people through their times of crisis. SOSAD is an extraordinary organisation run by extraordinary volunteers,” she said of her motivation.
Lily has been writing, recording and performing music for over 20 years. Her last album ‘Fighting Fit’ was released eight years ago.
She works in the Cavan Centre beside the Abbey building in Kilnacrott, which is a residential centre for community development.
“We work with marginalised and disadvantaged communities,” she explained.
Christine Wynne from SOSAD said it was refreshing to see new kinds of fundraising idea and initiatives. “To think that somebody could put their heart and soul into words and music that is going to resonate with other people is wonderful. The awareness it creates is immeasurable,” she said.
“I have heard the song and it is great and the words are very deep,” added Christine.
She said that more people are now reaching out for help and SOSAD Cavan is now operating outreach centres in Bailieboro and Cootehill.
Professional accredited Counsellors give of their time free to the SOSAD service, which is reliant on donations.
Her father Liam Burke is a familiar figure in the Crover House Hotel, where his professional meet and greet skills add greatly to the hotel’s customer service offering.
