Bailieboro festival to brighten up the summer
There is an abundance of entertainment on offer in Bailieborough this weekend as the annual MidSummer Festival takes place from Thursday July 18 to Sunday July 21.
The programme is packed full of options for all the family from treasure hunts to drama, and photography to live music.
Bailieborough is really catering for all tastes this year. The schedule of events commences with an exhibition by talented local photographers. This officially opens on Thursday at 7:15pm, upstairs in Bailieborough Library, Market Square. It runs through the festival weekend, up until August 12. The free exhibition will feature the work of Oliver Gargan, Sueann Nulty, Suella Holland, Colette Gemmell, Bertha Waller, Kevin Gorman, Breen Smyth, Maria Jordan O’Reilly, Shirley Hall, Barbara Englishby, Corey Davenport and Melanie Love.
If you have the energy then Friday’s Duathlon and 5K Run commences is at 7.15pm, participants will have to be very quick if they want to make it to see ‘The Year Of The Hiker’. This John B Keane play, directed by Liam Daly and performed by Moynalty Drama Group, will be staged in The Hotel Bailie at 8pm.
The amusement continues on Saturday with the walking treasure hunt from 12-5pm, while a car treasure hunt takes place between 4-7pm. Registration for both is in the Bailie reception.
All Saturday evening there will be an open air barbecue with fun family activities and watch out for screenings of the ‘The Man Who Wanted To Fly’. There’s music around the town on Saturday evening, with the Great Pretenders at 8pm being of particular note.
Sunday is ‘Family Fun Day’ and between 2-6pm the Main Street is the place to be. Admission is €5 and children are free. There’s a novelty dog show, Bailieborough’s Got Talent, as well as many craft and food stalls. The Vintage Day will see classic cars, bikes, tractors and lorries all brightening up the town. There is also bouncy castles and face painters.
The music rounding off a fabulous weekend is sure to be a real crowd pleaser. Early in the day (2pm) John McNicholls takes to the stage and the headline musical act at 4pm is Declan Nerney.
