Local Civil Defence to get new jeeps
Civil Defence crews in Cavan and Monaghan are set to receive new four wheel drive jeeps as part of a major upgrade of the country’s fleet.
The purchase of the new new Ford Ranger Crew Cab Pickups are part of a €500,000 allocation from the Government’s Dormant Accounts fund.
Each vehicle is estimated to cost close to €31,500.
Other Civil Defence crews to receive new vehicles are in Clare, Cork West, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kilkenny, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Sligo and Wexford.
The vehicles are used during national weather events such as Storm Ophelia in October 2017, and Storm Emma in March 2018.
The decision to award the vehicles came following an extensive assessment process, which too into account a variety of criteria such as age profile of vehicles currently in the fleet.
Fine Gael Senator Joe O’Reilly weclomed the allocations. “These new vehicles will be an additional resource for those who give their time and work so hard in times of emergency such as severe weather events to keep people safe. Their provision is also an important acknowledgement of the work of volunteers and their ongoing commitment to Civil Defence.”
