Cavan mum bags €25,000 prize on Winning Streak

A mum originally from Monaghan, now living in Co. Cavan won a cool €25,000 when she appeared on the National Lottery TV game show at the weekend.

Veronica Quinn from Mullagh won €25,000 in cash from the last in the current series of the popular RTE One show.

She spoke of learning about her Winning Streak luck after her sister-in-law sent her a video of Sinead Kennedy pulling her name out of the drum on RTE’s Today Show two weeks ago. At first Veronica was a bit apprehensive of getting too excited as she knew there were other Quinn’s in Mullagh, the town where she has lived for the past 12 years. It was only when she got the call from the National Lottery to confirm was when she truly allowed herself to believe the news.

Veronica is originally from Monaghan town but lives in Mullagh town in Cavan with her husband who is from Leitrim! She has been married to Bernard for 25 years and the couple met while both were working in London in the 90’s. Both returned to Ireland in 1994 and the couple now have one daughter, Shauna. Shauna will be beginning her junior cert in June so has a big month of exams ahead.

During the day, Veronica works in the planning department in Meath County Council, a place she has worked for the past 22 years since returning home to Ireland. She also keeps busy as she is the leader of St. Killian’s Brownies Girl Guide unit in Mullagh, something she is proud of and she has done this for more than 10 years.

She first got involved with the girl guides when Shauna joined when she was younger. Veronica is also on the committee of the Cavan Eagles basketball club based in Virginia, Cavan of which Shauna is also a player.

Veronica had supporters travelling from lots of counties to RTE last weekend as well as further afield. Her sister Caroline came all the way over from Manchester for the show while she also had family come to Dublin from Monaghan, Leitrim, Westmeath, Cavan and Meath.

This was the final Winning Streak National Lottery game show of the current season. The popular TV game show is co-presented by Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy. Winning Streak will return to screens this Autumn. In total, more than €5.3 million was won by Winning Streak players in this season alone.

The popular gameshow first appeared on our screens in September 1990 and since then more than 6,000 people have taken part, winning in excess of €170 million in prizes. Winning Streak is the second longest running game show in Europe.

Nearly 30 cent in every €1 spent on Winning Streak and all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes in the areas of sport, youth, health, welfare, education, arts, heritage and the Irish Language. In total more than €5.4 Billion has been raised for Good Causes since the National Lottery was established 32 years ago.
