Cavan challenge match cancelled for 'health and safety reasons' after mumps outbreak

The Cavan senior football team's scheduled challenge match against Meath, which was down for decision in St Matthew's Park, Crosskeys tomorrow [Monday] at 4.30pm has been postponed due to an outbreak of the mumps in the area.

The match, which was to mark the official opening of the Denn club's fantastic new facilities which were to be unveiled by GAA President John Horan, was cancelled today as a precautionary measure following the recent outbreak in the area, which earlier saw an All-County Football League match also postponed.

"The Official Opening of Denn GAA's new facilities and Senior Football Challenge, Cavan v Meath, due to take place tomorrow has been cancelled due to an outbreak of mumps in the in community," Cavan county board stated on their official social media accounts.

"In the interest of health and safety and to protect the health and wellbeing of players and supporters Denn GAA have reluctantly reached this unfortunate decision."

A spokesperson for the club added that the club are hoping to reschedule an official opening "in the not-too-distant future".

The club held a very successful golf classic in Headfort GC, Kells on Friday last and there is grave disappointment in the area that they have been left with no other option but to cancel tomorrow's events.
