Criminals target businesses over weekend
Four retail premises and one house were broken into after criminals targetted Cavan Town at the weekend.
The break-ins occurred from College Steet out to the Dublin Road from Saturday, April 6 into the early hours of Sunday, April 7.
Among the businesses targetted were an insurance firm, a tyre shop and a dance academy.
Separately, gardaí are also appealing for witnesses follwing a series of incidents of criminal damage in the Cavan Town area, different to those above, that also occurred in the early hours of April 7.
No arrests have been made at this stage, but investigating gardaí took to social media subsequently to alert the public.
“Did you see anything suspicious or have you any information that may help? If so give us a call on 049-4368800. It is so important that if you do see something you feel is out of the ordinary please report it immediately.”
To the business community at large, gardaí are advising them not to leave cash on their premises overnight, to make sure their alarm is working and serviced regularly or is monitored by a registered company; and, where CCTV is installed, to ensure that it is in good working order and that cameras are correctly positioned.
“It is also important to make sure the recorder is stored securely to ensure it cannot be disabled.
The premises should also be lit after closing to increase the likelihood of intruders being seen. Protecting your business premises makes it harder for criminals to succeed and can reduce their opportunities.”
