Meeting updates community on campaign
The Save St Mogue’s Committee held a public meeting to update the local community on the progress of their campaign last night (Wednesday). There was a good turnout at the public gathering in Templeport Resource Centre.
The Save St Mogue’s Committee are endeavouring to reverse the proposal by Cavan-Monaghan ETB to close St Mogue’s College in Bawnboy and St Bricin’s College in Belturbet .
Those attending the meeting heard about the meeting committee representatives had with a Department of Education official. Philomena Heery and Alison Edwards of Save St Mogue’s Committee along with Joe O’Reilly of the Save St Bricin’s Committee joined up with Deputy Brendan Smith to deliver a petition with over 2,700 signatures and a further 80 letters to Derek Newcombe, the private secretary to the Minister for Education and Skills , Joe McHugh.
The group are opposed to the CMETB's plan to replace the two education centres with a new school in Ballyconnell. As well as the representation to the Dáil the efforts so far include ongoing lobbying of local representatives, the establishing of social media accounts to put forward community views and co-ordinated action with St Bricin’s College in Belturbet.
There were a range of suggestions put forward at the meeting. More details of the meeting in next week's Celt.
