Nun to compare to Lorraine

Though it's well know around these parts the high quality images Anglo Celt photographer Lorraine Teevan produces last Friday she was acknowledged by her peers at national level in The Press Photographers Association of Ireland awards.

One of Belturbet native Lorraine’s photos was selected from among the 2,300 submitted to the Press Photographers Association for their annual awards. The eye catching image was also singled out in a showcase of the photography on The Late Late Show.

Lorrain's photos featuring naked nuns taking part in a charity fundraising swim singled out in the 'Daily Life and People' category of the awards: “It was one of 20 images I submitted for the awards,” Lorraine told the Anglo Celt, “I did not know it was chosen or that it was going to be featured on the Late Late until it was shown on the screen at the awards ceremony on Friday night.”

The picture captures a moment in history when more than 2000 women set a new Guinness World Record for the world’s largest skinny dip at a beach in Wicklow. The charity fundraiser took place at Meaghermore beach with 2,505 women took part in the event.

“It was a great day. There were only female photographers allowed there, I think I was the only one on the beach who was fully clothed!” Lorraine remarked. “I met a few people I know, in a situation like that you don't know where to look.”

Lorraine's work was one of six photos showcased on The Late Late. This year marks 41 years since the founding of The Press Photographers Association of Ireland. The overall award of ‘Press Photographer of the Year’ 2019 was presented to Tom Honan.
