Freezing temperatures ahead
National weather service Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow snow-ice warning for the country which runs for the week until Saturday.
Forecasters predict a cold-snap will bring chilly conditions across Ireland, with very cold scattered wintry showers of sleet and snow to be expected in the west and north.
The highest potential of snow is on Thursday, with air temperatures expected to be 3 or 4 degrees below the average for this time of year.
As a result there will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces where temperature could dip as low as -5 in some parts.
The warning will remain in operation until Saturday at 6pm.
