Ballinagh and Cavan mourn passing of Eddie Brady

It was with great sadness that the staff of The Anglo-Celt and the wider community of Ballinagh learned of the death of Edward (Eddie) Brady yesterday (Thursday), January 17, 2018.

Late of Urney, Ballinagh, Eddie was the long-time correspondent for the Ballinagh area of The Anglo-Celt newspaper - going back decades. 

He had encyclopaedic knowledge of the local history and families going back generations, as well as a photographic memory when it came to recalling historic moments in Gaelic Games down through the years. Ever the gentleman, Eddie chronicled many of these skillfully in the pages of The Anglo-Celt.

He was also a former member of the Cavan County Board, Cavan Chamber of Commerce and Cavan Tidy Towns Committee. Eddie was also one of the Cavan People of the Year in 2008 when he was recognised for his major contribution to his local community and many organisations.

A much respected man with many contacts, Eddie was also renowned for attracting the best marching bands from far afield to participate in the Cavan St Patrick's Day parade over the years.

A minute's silence was observed at the AGM of Cavan Chamber yesterday evening (Thursday) in the Hotel Kilmore. Ballinagh GFC also moved to pay tribute to him on their Facebook page:

Eddie was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Margaret (nee Donohoe). He is sadly missed by his brothers in law, sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbours and many many friends.

May he rest in peace.

Eddie's remains will be reposing at the McMahon Funeral Home, Farnham Road, Cavan, this evening (Friday) from 4pm until removal at 6.30pm to St. Felim’s Church Ballinagh, arriving at 7pm.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
