HSE clarify 20 week anomaly scan available to all pregnant women at Cavan General
The HSE has provided confirmation that all pregnant women will be eligible for a 20 week anomaly scan at Cavan General Hospital. Concern had been expressed by some women who were told that they were not eligible for the scan.
Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth has received confirmation on the issue from the HSE by way of a parliamentary question in recent days.
"This correspondence from the HSE is very reassuring and leaves no room for confusion on this issue. The letter clearly states that 'the 20-week anomaly scan is currently available to all women at Cavan General Hospital who have been referred by their GP'.
"I sought clarity on this issue after being contacted by a number of women who had been told that they were not eligible to receive the scan locally.
"The provision of anomaly scans at Cavan General Hospital marked a major step forward for women living in the area, who previously had to travel to Dublin. I had been campaigning on this issue since my election to the Dáil in 2016 and was particularly pleased when it was announced last year.
"I am now glad that I can eliminate any confusion about eligibility as the HSE has provided absolute clarity on the issue - all expectant mothers can access this can at Cavan General Hospital once they have been referred by their GP,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
