€12K worth of drugs seized in Cavan
Gardaí have seized drugs worth a combined estimate of €12,000 following two raids carried out in Co Cavan in recent days.
“Assorted” drugs with a street value in the region of €4,000 were seized after gardaí, supported by members of the Divisional Drugs Unit, raided a house in the Kingscourt area last Saturday, December 1.
The search, under warrant, resulted in one man being arrested, who was later released without charge while as file is sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the matter.
Separately, the second garda raid, also involving gardaí attached to the Bailieborough division, occurred at a residential property in the Crosskeys area on Monday last, December 3.
The raid, which coincided with separate searches gardai carried out at a business premises, took place in the mid-morning and involved members of the armed Emergency Response Unit
Drugs worth an estimated €8,000, with the substances subsequent sent for lab analysis.
Again, one male was arrested but later released without charge with a file sent to the DPP.
The two unconnected Cavan raids are the latest following the discovery of over 320 cannabis plants, with an estimated street value of €256,000 near Monaghan town.
The “highly sophisticated grow house” growhouse at a residential property on Coolshannagh Road was discovered on Saturday last, with the plants found understood to have been at a mature stage of growth.
The premises was subsequently sealed off for a forensic technical examination.
No arrests were made, and investigations are said to be “ongoing”.
