Burns' night celebrations continue after Booker win
A local TD has joined in the chorus of congratulations for author Anna Burns who last night won the prestigious Man Booker Prize.
While Burns joins a long list of Irish writers to scoop the award, along with £50,000, she is the first from the North.
Deputy Niamh Smyth said; “This is a huge achievement, and sees her following in the footsteps of other exceptional Irish writers such as Anne Enright, John Banville, Roddy Doyle, Iris Murdoch and JG Farrell.
Fascinating
“Milkman is a fascinating read, portraying The Troubles in a way which has rarely been told before. I want to pay tribute to her extraordinary writing skill.
“This win is a huge recognition of her talent and I want to extend my congratulations to her on this wonderful work of fiction”.
