Huge celebrations in Killyconnan

“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together.” The words of Vincent van Gough - quoted by Minister for Enterprise Heather Humphreys (FG) at the official opening of Killyconnan Sports Ground’s new 3G pitch last Sunday.
The community turned out in force for what was a red letter day locally - the culmination of years of hard work and investment in the local sporting facilities, which also now include a playground, adult exercise equipment and enhanced carparking.
The project was boosted by a series of grants totalling over €160,000, since 2016, through Clár funding and Sports Capital grants. The local community also raised €40,000 towards the facilities.
Minister Humphreys cut the ribbon to the facilities at the event, which was preceded by Mass. Local councillors Val Smith (FG) and Fergal Curtin (FF) and Deputy Brendan Smith (FF) were also in attendance. After the ribbon ceremony, Fr Andrew Tully, Parish Priest blessed the facilities. Refreshments were served in the Community Centre.
Congratulating all of those involved in seeing the project through to fruition, the Minister said: “Events like this are the cherry on the cake, but the truth is that a lot of work went on behind the scenes over a long period of time to bring us to this moment.
The people behind this project have never looked for credit or praise, but ultimately they are the reason we are standing here today, and for that we owe them a debt of gratitude.”
She congratulated Killyconnan Sports Ground Committee and Cavan County Council for spearheading and delivering the project.

Vision
“Without a doubt, the Killyconnan Sports Ground Committee had a vision for the area, which perfectly complemented the work we were doing, and continue to do in Government. It is an honour to have supported your vision in some small way,” said the Minister.
Minister Humphreys also noted the committee’s ambition to develop a community garden and pledged her support of same.
