Tidy Towns 60th anniversary marked with grants
Cavan Tidy Town groups are in for a €34,000 bonanza with the announcement of funding allocations for the community groups. The 23 Tidy Towns committees from across Cavan are in line for the boost of between €1,000 and €3,000 per group.
The funding has been allotted under a special scheme to mark the 60th anniversary of the Tidy Towns Competition. The scheme allowed each Tidy Towns committee apply for a grant of between €1,000 and €4,000 and will support each of the 23 committees throughout Cavan.
Speaking on the matter the Minister for Business, Enterprise, and Innovation,Heather Humphreys said the investment by the Government will support our local Tidy Towns groups: “Although the amounts involved are relatively small, I have no doubt that communities right across Monaghan and Cavan will benefit hugely from the funding.”
The Minister commended the ethos of Tidy Towns: “The competition really shows us the importance of local participation, bringing out the best in our towns and villages. The volunteers involved are worth their weight in gold and a credit to our communities.”
“Tidy Towns groups have made our country as a whole a better place to live in and to visit. Wherever you live in an area with an active Tidy Towns committee or not, the initiative gives the place a real boost and enhances tourism potential,” Minister Humphreys stated.
She continued by saying the investment by the Government recognises the contribution of citizens in our communities locally through Tidy Towns: “I have no doubt the money will be very well spent and, without a doubt, it represents great value for money.”
