€35,000 funding for Cavan and Monaghan youth projects

Local youth projects in Cavan and Monaghan will receive almost €35,000 in funding from new Government capital grants. The grants wil benefit young people in the two counties by improving the quality of the services in local communities.
Youth Work Ireland Cavan Monaghan are allocated a grant of €19,994.68 and ISPCC Monaghan are allocated €14,757.67, making a total of €34,752.35 under the capital grants.
The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys said the funding amounts will be beneficial: “They are relatively small in the greater scheme of things, I have no doubt that they will make a big difference to the young people involved.”
The grants will support the purchase of equipment and small scale projects, including the upgrade of bathrooms and kitchens in youth services. Eligible local services were invited by the Education and Training Board to apply for support.
The Minister continued: “Investing in and supporting young people is a key priority for this Government. Thanks to our strengthened economy, the Government is able to improve supports to the communities who need it most. Much of the upgrade works to take place under these grants will be in areas of disadvantage.”
Minister Humphreys congratulated those involved in making the grants possible: “I would like to thank Maureen McIntyre, Youth Officer in CMETB for her work in supporting local youth projects. Youth Officers act as a contact point in the locality, playing a crucial support role to the providers of youth services.”
The Business and Enterprise Minister concluded by saying: “Investing in young people is a key priority for Government. In 2018, we are investing a total of €61.5m in current and capital funding in clubs, services and supports for young people.”
