‘Hugo’ on the scent of glory
While the Cavan Rose is getting ready for this year’s Rose of Tralee, a rescue dog from Ballyconnell is eyeing up - or rather sniffing out a very different sort of crown in the Kerry town! Miniature Schnauzer ‘Hugo’ is hopeful of taking this year’s title of ‘Nose of Tralee 2018’ but he needs your votes to do it.
The event is Pet Sitters Ireland annual pet competition. Now in its fifth year, each year organisers select a ‘Nose’ per county to compete for the overall ‘Nose of Tralee’ title.
Amanda McFadden is Hugo’s owner and she believes he is the perfect choice for this year’s winner. "Hugo came to us in May from the Miniature Schnauzer Rescue Ireland and we fell in love with this crazy, happy, funny, cheeky wee pup. At ten months old, he keeps us on our toes but we wouldn’t have it any other way. He fits in perfectly with our other three and are all the best of buddies. Hugo may have had a difficult start in life due to been born blind and not been wanted but he is living his best life now and ruling the pack. Hugo would make the perfect Nose of Tralee as he relies on his nose so much," she said.
Voting
Selections are made via a series of judging and public votes. This year’s judges included author Lorna Sixsmith and comedienne Tara Flynn. Some of the dog contestants for the Nose of Tralee may well have an opportunity to appear on Ireland AM on TV3.
Voting has now opened for the public to decide which of the final 32 Noses will be crowned the overall Nose of Tralee. The voting will remain open until August 21.
