Driver caught doing 148kph in an 80kph zone

Gardaí in Cavan took to social media at the weekend to warn drivers of the dangers of excessive speed after they detected one motorist travelling at 148km/h in a 80kph zone. The speed check was carried out in the Ballyjamesduff to Cavan Road, and resulted in two cars also being detained in separate incidents for being on the road with no insurance. Three other Fixed Charge Penalty Notices were issued to motorist for driving in excess of the 80kph speed limit. The driver caught travelling at 148km/h will appear before the courts in due course charged with dangerous driving, an offence that could see the motorist in question receive a two-year ban.

Separately, in the Cavan Garda District over the past week, a total of four drivers were stopped and arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and over the legal limit.There were meanwhile three arrests for drug possession in the local area.
