Swift response quells blaze
A fire that broke out in a van was swiftly brought under control by members of Cavan Fire Brigade this morning. One unit of Cavan Fire Service attended at the scene of the blaze that engulfed a vehicle shortly after 11:am this morning.
The fire struck a vehicle in front of a domestic residence in the Ardkeen Estate. The homeowners of the house were evacuated from the premises for their safety and next door neighbours were also advised to leave the house while the fire service treated the conflagration.
An eyewitness to the fire said the blaze broke out at the front of the vehicle and worked its way back to the main body of the van.
The inferno caused damage to the windows of the house as well as melting the fascia at the front of the building. The fire services were on hand to treat the blaze shorty after being called. It occurred at the back of the Ardkeen Estate which is situated near the Cavan Leisure Complex.
An officer on duty at Cavan Garda Station said the blaze was “definitely not malicious”.
