Almost €500K in childcare funding for constituency
Cavan and Monaghan are set to receive an additional €466,949 in funding for the childcare sector.
The Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation and local Fine Gael TD, Heather Humphreys, made the annoucement this morning. It was confirmed by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, as part of a €6.87m allocation in capital funding. It is set to create over 2,000 new childcare places across the country.
The following projects in Cavan received funding:
Lil Buddies - Strand 1 - €49,940
Ballymachugh Childcare Committee - Strand 1: €46,346, Strand 2: €12,401 - total funding of €58,747
Krafty Kidz Community Childcare, Ballyconnell - Strand 1: €19,489, Strand 4: 20,000, Strand 5: €5,000 - total funding of €44,489
Happy Hours Community Playgroup - Strand 2: €20,000, Strand 3: €6,035 - total funding of €26,035
Superkids Preschool & Afterschool - Strand 2: €20,000, Strand 3: €7,000 - total funding of €27, 000
Laragh Childcare Services Company - Strand 3 - €3,518
Shercock Child Resource Centre - Strand 3: €6,632, Strand 5: €2,342 - total funding of €8,974
Smallworld Creche & Preschool - Strand 3: €6,940
Blacklion Childcare Services - Strand 5: €4,329

The approved 2017 Early Years Capital Funding will be made available to childcare centres, crèches and other Early Years services under five strands:
Strand 1: (Early Years) New Places (€3.86m – maximum €50k per grant): 85 projects to be funded.
Strand 2: (Early Years) Essential Maintenance and Repair community only (€1m - maximum €20k per grant, Community only): 57 projects to be funded.
Strand 3: (Early Years) Natural outdoor play area (€1m, maximum €7k per grant): 157 projects to be funded.
Strand 4: (School Age) New Places (€0.76m) 45 projects to be funded, creating 807 new places.
Strand 5: (School Age) Essential Maintenance and Repair (€0.25m) 54 projects to be funded.
The extra supports announced last September included a universal childcare subsidy, of up to €1,040 per year, available for children aged from six-months up to starting their free pre-school year (ECCE Scheme) at 36 months.
