Garda appeal as car, tools and drugs among latest items stolen

Burglaries 

Gardaí in Cavan are investigating a number of burglaries that took place in the last week. The first was a break in to Cara Pharmacy in Cavan Town on Wednesday, May 23. The incident happened at 2:50am. 


The robbers gained entry through the roof. They managed to get away with tills and medication.
Inspector Niall McKiernan said gardaí are looking for anyone with information on suspicious activity in the general area of Cavan Town at that time. Some of the property was recovered and gardaí are following a definite line of inquiry.

 

Criminal damage 

The setting fire of a digger in Arva is the subject of an investigation following an incident in the early hours of Tuesday, May 22.


The case of criminal damage took place at Pound St, Arva. A Bobcat digger was deliberately set on fire.
Gardaí say they are following a definite line of inquiry, but have asked the public to come forward if they have any information that may help in the investigation.

 

Gardaí warn retailers to be aware of deceptions

Gardaí are warning retailers to be on the look out for individuals engaged in fraudulent activities following an incident in Mountnugent.


Inspector Niall McKiernan gave details of “a deception” that was perpetrated in Mountnugent where a male asked for a €50 note to be changed. He then attempted to deceive the shop assistant. 
Gardaí are urging businesses to have their employees well briefed about the different types of scams that are being committed.

 

Window warning
Homeowners are being asked not to leave accessible downstairs open overnight in the current warm weather. The call comes following an incident in Beltubet.


Last Thursday, May 24, gardaí responded to an alarm activation between 3am and 4am. The culprit gained access to a private residence through a downstairs kitchen window that had been left ajar.
Inspector Niall McKiernan issued a warning to householders: “In this weather, people are inclined to leave windows open overnight. We would ask people to ensure that, if they are leaving downstairs windows open, they have security features that prevent people from gaining accessing through them.”

 

Tools stolen
An investigation into an incident that took place on Saturday evening is being conducted by the local Gardaí. A garage on Holborn Hill in Belturbet was targeted in a raid between 9pm on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.
In the incident two generators and other small tools taken from the premises. Gardaí are urging anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at them time to contact them.

 

Vehicular theft
The theft of a 05 Toyota Avensis from Staghall on Saturday night or the early hours of Sunday morning is being investigated by Cavan Gardaí. The local community was informed about the incident via text alert. Gardaí are asking for anyone who may have any information that may assist to contact them in confidence.
In another incident in Staghall on Saturday night/Sunday morning a vehicle was broken into. Tools were taken from the car.
