Don’t put the sun cream away just yet!
County Cavan has been enjoying an extended period of sunshine following a long and harsh winter, writes Ellen O'Brien.
Temperatures in the Breffni County hit 23 degrees Celsius today (Tuesday) making it one of the hottest days of the year so far. But the good news for readers is it’s set to continue over the June Bank Holiday weekend, bar the odd shower.
Speaking to the Celt this morning, meteorlogist Evelyn Cusack gave the outlook for the next few days and into the weekend. “It may not be quite as warm as we go through Thursday and Friday. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we’ll see temperatures into the mid 20s but on Thursday, Friday and over the weekend, more typical temperatures might be 20 or 21. We are likely to have light winds so it will feel pleasant, there’ll be some warm sunshine at times.”
The latest forecast is music to the ears of festival organisers around the county who are hopeful of large attendances from the County Fleadh in Kilnaleck to the Jamboree in Killinkere and plenty in between (check out our events guide in tomorrow's Celt, pages 41-44).
If nothing else, the weather in Cavan has proven this week that not all people in the county have ‘short arms and long pockets’, with the machines in shops and filling stations across the county churning out fresh, creamy, whipped ice cream. It just puts everyone in a good mood, doesn’t it?
