Poll: Should the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution be repealed?
The Anglo-Celt has opened a poll in advance of the forthcoming abortion referendum (scroll down for the link)...
As referendum day approaches, the debate is heating up as to whether we should repeal the Eighth Amendment of the constitution and allow the government to legislate for abortion on demand up to 12 weeks of gestation and in limited circumstances thereafter.
The large chunk of the electorate who are undecided (18% according to the latest Sunday Independent/Kantar Millward Brown opinion poll) indicates that the vote could go either way.
Excluding undecided votes, that poll showed a slight majority (57%) in favour of repealing the Eighth, which gives equal protection uto the life of the mother and the unborn.
A notable feature of the poll was it showed a clear urban-rural divide on the issue. It found 51% in Dublin in favour of repeal, falling to 37% in Connacht/Ulster, which takes in Cavan and Monaghan.
The Anglo-Celt has decided to initiate its own poll on this important issue. Please vote below and the poll will remain open until midnight on May 23, ahead of polling day on Friday, May 25.
* The 1,003 nationwide interviews in the Sunday Independent poll were carried out from April 18-30. The margin of error is 3.1%.
