€295,000 to repair five LIS roads
Almost €300,000 has been allocated to Co Cavan to fund improvement works on 2.6 kilometres of private laneways at five locatioons under the Government’s Local Improvement Scheme (LIS).
The finding was welcomed by Fine Gael TD for Cavan-Monaghan and Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Heather Humphreys, having been announced by her colleague at the Department of Rural and Community Development earlier this morning.
The €295,000 for Cavan will go towards improving 300 metres of roadway at Edenburt Lane, Lisduff (€40,241); 770 metres at Tullynacross, Glangevlin (€78,944); 450 metres at Annagh Station Lane, Cornafean (€49,328); 500 metres at Cloughbally Upper Lane, Mullagh (€57,356); and 580 metres at Ardvarney Lane, Carrickaboy (€69,130).
Meanwhile, in neighbouring Co Monaghan, €250,000 has been allocated for the improvement of 16 laneways.
The scheme, Minister Humphreys described, is a lifeline for people living in rural areas, directly improving their access to and from homes and farms. “Local connectivity is crucial to ensuring that rural Ireland can function well,” she added.
“Many people living and working in Monaghan and Cavan use these roads every time they enter or leave their home or farm, so the condition of their access road really impacts on them. Investing in the improvement of these roads really makes a positive impact on people’s quality of life in rural areas,” said the Minister.
