CELT Spring Watch- We have tadpoles!
A follow up in our Anglo-Celt 'Spring Watch' series, the frog spawn at our reporter's home has blossomed into a hundreds of tadpoles.
Part of the larval stage in the life cycle of an amphibian, particularly that of a frog or toad, some tadpoles can remain in their tadpole stage for up to 8 months. For most species the tadpole stage lasts from one to three months.
The rise in temperatures of late has helped prompt the growth spurt, with the metamorphosis to see the gradual development of forelimbs and hind limbs, resorption of the tail, shortening of the intestine, disappearance of the gills, and development of lungs.
