Over 45 Youthreach learners receive certs

The annual presentation of certificates to students attending Cavan Youthreach at Moynehall took place last Thursday morning.

The certs were presented by Senator Diarmuid Wilson (FF) and the welcome address was delivered by Robert Sivak, learner.
The chairman of the Cavan Monaghan ETB, Clifford Kelly, also addressed the those assembled, as did Senator Wilson and the co-ordinator of Cavan Youthreach, Sabrina McEntee.
Over 1,200 learners have attended the Cavan Youthreach Centre since it was first initiated 25 years ago.
During his speech Senator Wilson revealed: “We look forward in the not too distant future to moving to a state-of-the-art premises, but that is for another day.”
Daniel Reilly and Katlin Maughan read a poem and inspirational reflection pieces.

In all, 46 learners were in line to receive certificates last week.
“Over the last two years these learners not only achieved QQI certification at level 2 and 3 and 4, they also achieved awards and recognition in extra curriculum activities,” said Ms McEntee.

Sabrina McEntee said the YSI team have been extremely busy over the past two years. “They have been working away on their ‘Mental Health’ project, achieving a ‘highly commended’ award for their project last year. This year they are organising a Mental Health Conference in the Library on Friday, April 20, which they hope to host annually,” she said
“It has been a busy couple of years for all our learners and I hope they have inspired our present learners to continue to work hard and get involved in all these projects and more,” added Ms McEntee.
She gave particular praise to one of the learners eligible for a cert on the day, Martin Aldridge, who was unable to attend as he was in the Slieve Russell training to become a chef.
Cllr Kelly praised the work that Ms McEntee and others were doing at Cavan Youthreach and encouraged the learners to “continue in education” and to strive to achieve their goals in life.
