Water treatments plants struggle to meet supply

 

Following increased demand, Irish Water working in partnership with Cavan County Council, has advised customers that due to the extremely cold weather conditions and exceptionally high usage, water treatment plants are struggling to keep up with water supply demands.

Customers are therefore being asked to conserve water to avoid reservoirs emptying, and water pressure to homes and businesses being affected.

High demand is being registered on the Bailieborough Regional Water Scheme, which includes the Bailieborough and Viriginia areas.This, Irish Water says is due to, “more than likely, taps being left running in peoples’ homes.”

Meanwhile to the west, low reservoir levels may cause supply disruptions to Ballinagleragh Village, Slievenakilla and surrounding areas in Co. Leitrim. Crews are monitoring levels and working to resolve this matter as soon as possible.

Irish Water is urging customers to conserve water by not running dishwashers or washing machines where possible and taking showers instead of baths.
