Without water for a week!
Irish Water and Cavan County Council have apologised to customers in the Kingscourt area, some of whom have been without water for almost a week now.
A spokesperson for Irish Water issued the following update and statement to The Anglo-Celt this afternoon:
'Irish Water working in partnership with Cavan County Council, can confirm that bursts to water mains in the Kingscourt area last Wednesday and Thursday led to water outages or loss of pressure for some customers, particularly those in higher areas. These leaks are repaired.
In addition to this, low reservoir levels, following a major pump failure on Saturday morning, affected customers in Kingscourt and surrounding areas in Co Cavan.
'In order to allow the reservoir to replenish, supply was shut off from midnight on February 5 until 6:30am on February 6. Disruptions and low pressure may still continue until the morning of February 7 however Irish Water is confident that supply should be restored to all areas by now. If anyone is still experiencing problems they should contact Irish Water immediately on 1850 278 278 and we will investigate the problem.
'Water Tankers providing an alternative supply of water remain in place in the following areas:
- Main Street beside the Church of Ireland
- Kells Road by the SuperValu
'Customers using water from the alternative supply are advised that they should boil water before use as a precautionary measure.
'Anyone still experiencing a problem should contact Irish Water on 1850 278 278.
'Irish Water and Cavan County Council wish to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused during these unplanned incidents and thank the public for their patience and cooperation while works were carried out to rectify the situation.'
'Disgraceful'
Meanwhile, residents in the Kingscourt area continue to contact the Celt throughout the day saying that there are still without water. St Joseph's National School has contacted parents warning that it may have to close tomorrow (Wednesday) if the supply has not fully returned.
One local councillor has described the situation as "disgraceful"; while the mother of a baby with a bowel condition, who needs to sterilise bottles, said it was a "disaster".
