Chilly outlook after snow-ice Warning
Up to 3cm of snow is expected after the national weather service issued a status 'Yellow' warning, with freezing temperature set to hit later this evening and expected to last over the coming days.
Met Eireann has told of falls of snow with accumulations of 0 to 3 cm. This they add could lead to hazardous conditions on roads and footpaths, and are urging motorists and pedestrians to be careful.
Counties Cavan and Monaghan, much of Leinster, neighbouring Leitrim, and East Cork, Tipperary and Waterford in the south of the country are to be hit worst by the latest cold snap.
Conditions are expected to take a nosedive to freezing from around 6pm on Monday, February 5, with rain turning to sleet and then snow.
“Sleet and snow will mainly affect the eastern half of the country. It will clear later in the night. Wintry showers will develop in the west. Frost and ice will form also leading to hazardous conditions on untreated roads and footpaths. Lowest temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees.”
The national weather service 'Yellow Status' warning will remain in place until 4am tomorrow, Tuesday, February 6.

There is a further warning in place for further cold and frosty weather to be expected on Tuesday night, with some showers of sleet or snow. “There'll be a widespread sharp or severe frost will follow with icy patches. Lowest temperatures of -4 to +1 degrees.”
Met Eireann expect a break in the freezing weather come Wednesday morning, which they predict will be dry with sunny spells and frost gradually clearing.
An Garda Siochana have also added their own warning ahead of the impending snow and ice, asking road users to check local weather and traffic conditions and be aware of the conditions before setting out on a trip. “Following the snow road temperatures nationwide are set to fall and road conditions will be hazardous overnight and in the morning in many places,” a spokesperson has said.
