Snow warning issued for tomorrow
Met Eireann have warned of sweeping snowfall across Ireland from tomorrow morning, expected to hit Cavan and surrounding counties by mid-afternoon to late-evening on Thursday.
The Yellow Warning was issued by the Irish weather service today (Wednesday), telling the public to prepare for snow and ice across Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Meath, Kerry, Limerick and Tipperary.
“For a time on Thursday and Thursday night, there’ll be patchy accumulations of up to 3 cm of snow, especially on high ground, but small amounts at lower levels also.”
Met Eireann added that the snowfalls are expected for a time in parts of Munster between 7 am and 4 pm, and for a time in parts of Leinster, Connacht and Ulster from 4 pm onwards.
The warning is in place until 6am on Friday, with rain to soon follow, clearing any snow.
As a result the Road Safety Authority has advised all road users to take care when using the roads, with slippery conditions expected.
Temperatures tonight (Wednesday) are forecast to reach as low as -4, meaning roads, and people are being warned to beware of black ice.
“Tonight, showers will become confined to coastal counties of Ulster and Connacht and winds will ease. Clear spells will develop in most areas and a widespread sharp or severe frost will form with ice on untreated surfaces. Lowest temperatures of 0 to -3 or -4 degrees.”
