Minister Humphreys takes over Business and Innovation
Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar has nominated Minister Heather Humphreys, to replace Frances Fitzgerald at the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation. The Cavan- Monaghan TD has been Minister for Arts and Culture since Mr Varadkar took over as Taoisech earlier this year.
Announcing the appointment Mr Varadkar mentioned the role Minister Humphreys will play in preparing for Brexit, particularly relevant as she represents a border constituency. In a tweet the Taoiseach highlighted the fact that Minister Humphreys is not from the Capital, “Also delighted to appoint @HhumphreysFG as Minister for Business Enterprise & Innovation, first time in 7 years it's held by someone from outside Dublin. Important role for Brexit and regional jobs.”
The Taoiseach, nominated the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney as Tanaiste and has promoted Dublin Rathdown TD Josepha Madigan from the backbenches to replace Heather Humphreys at the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
Fine Gael Senator, Joe O’Reilly, has congratulated Minister Humphreys on her appointment as Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation.
Senator O'Reilly said: “Bringing such an important ministry to the border region, and to the Cavan – Monaghan constituency, is essential to our local communities as we face the challenges of Brexit.
“I look forward to actively working with my constituency colleague Minister Humphreys in her new role to benefit towns, villages and every locality across Cavan and Monaghan, and to mitigate the potential adverse impact of Brexit on our local communities.”
