Man charged with Cootehill shooting

 

One man has been charged and another remains in custody following a double shooting incident in Cootehill at the weekend.

A man in his 30's appeared before a special sitting of Trim District Court at 5pm on Tuesday, August 29. He had been in custody since after the incidents which occurred in the early hours of last Sunday morning, August 27.

He has since been bailed and is due to appear before the sitting of Cavan District Court next month, September 28.

The second man, arrested at lunchtime on Tuesday, and also detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act 1939, remains in custody at Bailieborough Garda Station. Under the Act gardai have up to 72 hours for which to question the man.

Their arrests follow the two separate shooting incidents which occurred in the east Cavan market town at the weekend.
