€6.4m syndicate plan to continue working as normal

The syndicate of three from the North East who scooped a lotto jackpot worth €6.4 million from a ticket sold in Cootehill says they are determined the life-changing sum of money won't change their lives 'dramatically'.

The trio, who kept their win from the Wednesday July 5 draw under wraps for the best part of seven weeks, each stand to earn the guts of €2.13m.

The winning Quick Pick ticket was bought on Sunday July 2 at Argue's Londis Store in the market town of Cootehill. The winning numbers were 07, 16, 18, 20, 24, 37 and the Bonus 13. The win is the 28th jackpot winning ticket sold in the county since the National Lottery was established 30 years ago.

The delighted group – who wish to remain anonymous – celebrated their good fortune with a glass of champagne in the National Lottery winner's room last week.

A spokesperson for the happy group said: 'We are absolutely delighted with this win. It will make life a lot easier for all of us and we will be able to help out family and friends as well. This is a huge amount of money, but we are all determined that it won't change our lives dramatically.'

All syndicate members say they plan to continue working as normal, and as of yet have no major plans for spending their winnings.

'The last five weeks have been surreal. It has been like a dream. There has been huge speculation in the North East and Cavan about who won this life-changing amount, so we decided to keep our heads down and wait a few weeks before making our claim.'

Cavan's record for lotto wins includes an almost €7m jackpot winning ticket at Pat's Store in Kingscourt in March 2011, a near €5m ticket again in Cootehill, at Hannigans' on Main Street in March 2007, and two wins both of close to €4.5m at Supervalu in Bailieborough in 1996 and 2016.

A National Lottery spokesperson told The Anglo-Celt: 'We are delighted that the winners of the Lotto jackpot ticket sold in Cootehill have come forward. Cavan has a great record when it comes to selling Lotto jackpot tickets over the years and we hope this continues!'
