Carrigallen maintain high standards

'The results are as good as they've always been here, of a very high standard and we're very proud of our students' achievements. Talking to all the students who've collected their results thus far and they're confident they'll get what they applied for in the CAO,' says principal of Carrigallen Vocational School Declan Conboy.

He told The Anglo-Celt earlier on Wednesday morning that, even despite the initial confusion in attempting to assess points scoring through the new marking system, students from last year's Leaving Certificate class have been 'delighted' with their results.

'The students are absolutely delighted, they've got on very well. I suppose there is a little bit of confusion this year, the change in marking has been a big thing, but we're sitting them down, myself and the Deputy Principal [Fiona McMorrow] and we're working them through that.'

Many, Mr Conboy expects, will progress onto third level, capable of achieving what courses they chose in the upcoming CAO offers.

'A lot are looking to go down the teaching route this year, which is nice to see. A lot of students too would be from a strong agricultural background so quite a few in that regard would be looking to do courses along those lines, the likes of courses in Dundalk and Ballyhaise as well.

'Economics and finance too is something that has crept back in,' he added.
