Premiere party time for Billy Burns movie
After five long years in the saddle, the eagerly anticipated 'No Party for Billy Burns' is set for its premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh 2017. Shot in Cavan the off beat tragi-comedy stars Kevin McGahern in the lead role of Billy, a simple fellow who wishes he was a cowboy. In production for the last half a decade the film now makes its first public appearance at one of Ireland's best film festivals.
Directed by Padraig Conaty and produced by Lisa McNamee, aside from Gowna's McGahern, it features a strong Cavan cast, including Shane Connaughton.
'No Party for Billy Burns' comes to the screen thanks to a crowd funding project and the hard work and dedication of Conaty and McNamee.
“We didn't know if it was going to happen,” Padraig admitted to the Celt. “We struggled away and we used the deadline for the Galway Film Fleadh to help push us over.”
Billy has a wild imagination and lives with his reclusive grandfather (Connaughton) on the outskirts of town, and believes the old man was once a famous gunslinger. Left out by his friends, Billy relies on his imagination and love of working on the land to get him by.
The screening will take place on July 13 and any Cavan people who want to make their way to the City of Tribes will be more than welcome.
