Family fun at the Killinkere Jamboree
The legendary Killinkere Jamboree will be celebrating its 41st year in existence when the crowds flock to the famed grounds and community centre this Bank Holiday weekend.
The dynamic committee, under the chairmanship of Tony Ryan, have pulled out all the stops this year to put a most comprehensive programme of fun events and activities in place, that are guaranteed to entertain all the family. The Jamboree weekend continues to focus on great community participation in the events and of course hundreds of people will be doing stewarding. The expansive grounds in Killinkere affords the ideal venue for an actioned packed and fun weekend.
A high percentage of activities will take place this year in the Leisure Centre, so if there is any adverse weather conditions, the enjoyment factor will not be spoiled.
FRIDAY FUN
The Jamboree kicks off with a monster family Bingo session in the Community Centre at 9pm. Everyone welcome and there will be lots of spot prizes on the night.
SATURDAY LINE-UP
The Cavan Curse
Drama will take centre stage in the Killinkere Centre on the Saturday evening at 8.30pm when ‘The Cavan Curse’, written by John McManus, will star the renowned and fantastic Seamus O’Rourke, together with with the very talented Fiona Fitzpatrick. Adult admission is €15 and concession is €10. Whether you're an avid football enthusiast or have little or no interest in sport, this play will enthuse and enthral from start to finish. There will be music in the bar after the drama has concluded.
WONDERLAND ON SUNDAY
The activities lined-up for the Sunday afternoon from 12 noon are spectacular and the Jamboree Wonderland experience is magical and something the children will never forget. It will feature the Themed Activity House with the Willie Wonka Shop, Mad Hatter Tea Party, picnic area and the dream art exhibition. This is the second year of the staging of the Wonderland spectacular, which promises to be even bigger and better. The Birds of Prey showcase will also be a superb attraction.
Gogglebox Sensations
Go along and meet the Gogglebox sensations from the TV3 hit show – the Tully Twins, Fergal and Neal and have the craic with them, after their tour of Cavan.
There will also be an opportunity to meet and greet Peppa, Fireman Sam and many other characters.
There will be U10 Camogie and Football blitzes at 11am and numerous local clubs and schools have been invited to participate.
The outdoor family fun will also include human fooseball, operating diggers, dog show at 2pm, Cavan’s Fittest Club and an over 35s' match at 6pm featuring Killinkere and Denn. The entry fee for adults is €10 and children are free. The grand finale music on Sunday night will feature the multi-talented Sinead Fox providing the entertainment.
Killinkere Centre
The Killinkere centre is the place to be on Sunday, June 4, from 1-6pm, where there will be a magnificent showcase of groups of young musicians and dancers from the various music and dance schools in the area. The entertainment of offer will be suitable for all ages.
Afternoon Tea Party
The ever popular afternoon tea party will take place at 2.30pm on the Sunday afternoon and the music will be provided by the one and only Eddie Owens.
There is free admission to this particular event in the centre and the musical and dance extravaganza will feature young people from all of the following: Butterfly Ballet School, Bailieborough School of Music, the Performance Academy Cavan, Smith Academy of Irish Dance, Cillin Cheir Comhaltas. All taking to the stage will be a traditional group featuring the talented Maria Donnery.
