New Townhall plans revealed
Cavan County Council has revealed details of its planned renewal of the 110-year-old former Town Council headquarters into a top quality modern cultural space.
With a capital grant of €750,000 from the Department of Arts earlier this year and match funding to be made available by the local authority, the aim now is to repair the listed building’s roof as well as make it more accessible for people of all abilities.
Notice of the redevelopment of the Townhall Arts Space will see works to the roof and walls to improve thermal efficiency also, while a new lift will be installed to 'provide universal access to the upper floors' of the three-storey building.
Renewal of the building services will also include new air conditioning system to the main theatre auditorium, as well as new electrical wiring and upgrading of the heating system. Along with the replacement of the external fire escape stairs, internal alterations to the building will be carried out with decorative finishes throughout.
Finally, new mechanical plant and screening will be applied to the flat roof of 1970's extension, and the footpath to the front of the arts centre will be both widened and resurfaced, with new public lighting also installed.
An architectural impact assessment of the proposed development had been completed, and submissions with respect to the proposed development must reach the Planning Section of Cavan County Council before 5pm on July 7.
