Cavan waltzed to a record 21-point win in their Ulster U21 Championship opener against a disappointing Fermanagh side at Brewster Park tonight.

Before a 1,000-strong crowd, Cavan started brilliantly and were six points up after eight minutes following points from top scorer Caoimhín O’Reilly (three), Ryan Connolly (two) and Mattie McKenna.

Cuchulainns man Magee turned sharply to make it 0-7 to 0-0 and although Conor McAuley got Fermanagh off the mark with an excellent point, further scores from the razor sharp O’Reilly and two from Connolly (one free) made it 0-10 to 0-2 at the break.

Fermanagh, who kicked 15 wides, struggled to break down a watertight Cavan defence and with the Breffni inside men on form, Thomas Galligan and captain Cormac Daly dominating at midfield and Thomas Edward Donohoe supplying great ball, the Blues cut loose after the break.

Pierce Smith got the opener in the second half and four further scores from O’Reilly eased Cavan in front as manager Niall Lynch ran his bench. Subs Conor Bradley (two) and Rhys Clarke inted and two other replacements, Peter Corrigan and Conor Smith, bagged goals as Cavan marched on in style.
