Cavan students seek support for 'Jailbreak' event

Every year, a unique fundraising event involving students from colleges all over Ireland catches the imagination of the people all over the country and this year's 'Jailbreak' is set to be a winner.

Two Trinity College students from County Cavan, Aisling Claffey from Ballinamoney, Bailieborough and Roisin O'Rourke from Tullyco, Laragh are participating in this adventurous fundraiser over a period of 36 hours on Saturday and Sunday, March 11-12. They will be dressed in all Cavan GAA gear as they aim to raise at least €300 for their chosen charities - the St Vincent de Paul and Amnesty International.
During this time, Roisin and Aisling, who are both studying Occupational Therapy, will have to travel out of Ireland to a mystery location, without using any of their own money. There will be a number of students teaming up in pairs for this event, with the aim of reaching a mystery 'Location X' before anyone else.
They will be reliant solely on donations for their travel and for the charities. Aisling says they will all assemble at Mountjoy Square before the whistle is blown at 12 noon and the race is on to get to the airport. There will be clues left giving an indication how to get to destination X.
Both Aisling and Roisin will also be posting regular updates on their facebook page and the website constantly during the event.
“We will be letting people know our location and what is happening and we will also be sending a link to everything we post – people can click on that link and make a donation to us,” explained Aisling. They also have to send text messages back to Trinity College every couple of hours, informing them of their whereabouts.
Roisin explained that will be carrying their passports and their European Health Cards. “We are just given clues and we have to figure out where we are going,” she said. There will also be tasks and challenges to be completed along the way.
“We decided to participate because we felt it was really unique and interesting way to raise money for charities. It is also a great experience as well. That fact that it is a race also makes it competitive and exciting,” added Roisin.
The girls would really appreciate donations and are appealing, in particular, to companies to donate for the charities or sponsor their travel.
If a company agrees to sponsor the team, featuring Roisin and Aisling, the team will give recognition to the company - tagging them in all of their media posts over the weekend, wearing their brand, etc.
