Stage set for SFC final
Paul Fitzpatrick
And then there were two.
Ramor United and Castlerahan will meet in the final of the Senior Football Championship after they came through their semi-finals against Gowna and Lavey respectively this evening.
Before a large crowd at HQ, Castlerahan got off to a poor start when a goal from TJ Fitzpatrick and points from Robbie Fitzpatrick and Conor Madden helped underdogs Gowna into a five-point lead.
However, first half goals from Paul Brady, Enda Flanagan and David Wright eased Michael Reilly's side in front.
They led by 3-4 to 1-5 at half-time and rode their momentum to run out 3-9 to 1-10 winners, with sub Cian McEnroe kicking a couple of late frees.
Meanwhile, Ramor were made to fight all the way by a gutsy Lavey.
The Virginia boys were boosted by a magnificent early goal from Jack Brady and points from Jack and younger brother James but Lavey hit back with a goal of their own from Chris Conroy and excellent scores from Gerry Smith and Ray Cullivan.
At half-time, Ramor led by 2-6 to 1-4 but Kevin McDonnell's men dominated the second half and were left to rue seven wides after the break.
Ramor were much more economical and crucial points from James Brady and Eoin Somerville made the difference.
They held on bravely at the end, with Damien Barkey starring at full-back, as Lavey - driven on by the Jordan brothers, Ray Cullivan and Paul Gilchreest - searched in vain for the goal they needed.
